Johnson and Snesrud Resign with Habs

Messagepar Montreal GM » 11 Avr 2017, 07:06

It was annouced late Sunday night that both Eric Johnson and Mat Snesrud will be once again wearing a Montreal Canadien Jersey for Season 23, as GM Arsenault opened the pocket book and gave the players rather large contracts. Johnson, 39 years old is about to receive and go out of the league with a $16.65M contract.
GM Arsenault: It's Eric Johnson. He is worth every penny that he gets. There is no active player that has had the career he has had. Knowing that a player of his caliber wants to, and will retire in Montreal is a historic moment that we really wanted to happen. His skill is second to none, and we would rather have him play with us, than play against us. Mat will also be returning. He showed us last year that he can put the puck in the net especially when we were struggling on the power play. He came in and gave us a great boost and we want to be able to keep that going. So althought it seems like alot of salary to give them, they are the reason our team had a great run last year and we are hoping to copy some of that again this year.

The Canadiens Salary Cap is holding pretty tight on 3 players, as Martin Hohener has a contract of 9.2 mil. It will be interesting to see how the Canadiens fill the rest of their roster with very little left available to use.
