Vancouver Sith Season Preview

Messagepar Vancouver » 13 Sep 2016, 15:00

With the smell of hockey in the air the Vancouver Sith are on the brink of another ANHS season. What can the Sith do for an encore to last season's success is the big question. The team has the same roster as last year but one year older and will time catch up with some of the veterans that have carried this team to playoff appearances in the last 2 seasons or Will the youth start to carry the torch?

Centre - Perhaps the biggest change to the depth chart comes at the Centre position, perennial superstar Martin Ethier will be stepping aside for 28yr old Greg Walters to take over 1st line duties. Veterans Jim Burke and Mike Kostolny will round out the 3rd and 4th lines. If Walters can't step up and produce a dip in offence will be likely.

Left Wing - The big question every year, is Stefan Albelin ready to contribute positively to the Sith franchise? Or does Shawn Kilroy have to bring his defence first mentality to the first line. Pre-Season will be a good test for Albelin. Solid point producer Daniel Hodge will be on 3rd line and expected to get 20-25 goals out of him including PP spot duty. 4th line has a couple of vets battling for the spot, Kyle Rossiter and Stephen Peat. Coach Gretzky has leaned on Peat in the past but we'll see what the new season brings.

Right Wing - Bill Maguire will get the lions share of minutes this year and will be a leader on and off the ice. Management is expecting big numbers from the superstar. Mat Snesrud the forgotten man? Hardly, Snesrud simply produces, while not happy about playing second fiddle to Maguire he feels it's still an honour to be a Sith, however trade rumours swirl around him daily. Last season captain Tom Pratt will fill in the 3rd line and youngster Wayne Smith will get a great opportunity to stay with the big club.

Defence - No big changes here, Oslon, Cass, Jefferson and Shellington get top four duties. Jefferson will get to focus on Defence this year different from last years RW/D split. The last 2 spots will be Bembridge as a lock and either Ross or Wahlsten winning the last spot. It's no secret that Brian Ross is on the trade block and will be dealt. The wild card will be rookie Jacob Maas, can the speedy d-man make the club?

Goalie - No questions here, except....will Neil Ramsay finally get the respect he deserves and take home a Vezina?? Unfortunately his problem isn't with the regular season but the post season where Neil's numbers are an atrocity. Jerome Butler will be back-up and mentor to Ramsay this season with no push coming from the farm.

The Vancouver Sith should make the playoffs again this season, but the conference has a glut of good teams that continue to improve, while Vancouver rely on chemistry.
