While it's time for the last preparations before the up-coming S25 Pre-Season, let's look back at the last Junior Draft that was held a few weeks ago. The Ottawa Sens' scouting team was ready for this event with 5 picks to work on: OTT1(20th) + BAL3(43rd) + EDM3 (58th) + OTT5 (100th) + SUR6 (101st). Even though we had a few names on our list as our possible first pick, which was the 20th, the scouting team along with GM Trahan felt that the team had to move in order to pick earlier in the draft. The focus was on selecting a goalie that could become Steve Morrow's succession plan. This is why GM Trahan contacted his St-Louis' counterpart inquiring if GM Hurtubise was willing to let go his 7th pick (St-Louis also had the 8th pick). In the end, Ottawa traded their 5 picks of this draft against the 7th overall pick. With this pick, the Sens selected 18yr old goalie Younes Boumal which apparently already agreed to his first pro entry contract.
With Nick Peterson as the third string goalie but already 28yr old, Boumal will have all the chance to prove himself with the Binghamton Senators this season. As a backup goalie in the pros, Mathieu Pelletier will play the last season of his actual contract with the Sens before becoming UFA. Boumal will surely have an opportunity in a short term...
