30th win for Kris Miller

Messagepar Winnipeg » 20 Déc 2016, 16:43

It took an overtime for a second game in a row before Kris Miller was able to celebrate his 30th win of the season. It came in a win over division rivals Bulls in San Antonio by a score of 3 to 2. Nick Fisher scored his 6th of the season at 1:08 of the overtime to give the Jets their 35th win of the season.

Winnipeg now has 75 points, 12 more than any other team in the league. They are on an incredible run of 20-3-1 in their last 24 games and are on the way to establishing a franchise record season if they keep this pace until the end of the season.

As mentioned earlier, in last night's game, Kris Miller won his 30th game of the season in only 45 starts! He leads the league in wins, goals against average and save percentage. He is currently 4th in minutes played. At 29, Miller is definitely having a career year. Having won the Thouin Cup last season, coming off a trade with Montreal, he has established himself as arguably one, if not the best, goalie in the league.

With 29 games left, he could easily reach the 40, even maybe the 45 win mark. His career high is 36 in season 20. His current GAA at 2.55, is way better than his career best of 2.82. The same can be said about his current save percentage sitting at .912, an important leap from his Season 20 best of .905.

Miller had this to say when journalists asked him about the fact that he reached the win plateau this early in the season:
I feel great and the team is playing incredible hockey. We had a somewhat slow start, and we had some injuries. But even so, we were able to display our great depth and we still won games. We have good teams in our conference and the last part of the season is not going to be easy. We still have a lot of games to play against the Sakic Division and that won't be easy. But we're ready. The machine is running smoothly and we will never be an easy target.

The Jets are currently on a 5-games-in-5-nights run. They will be playing the next two games at home against Vermont and Ottawa before traveling to Baltimore to face the Thunder. The Jets have a combined record of 6-0-4 against Baltimore and Vermont. They will be playing their first game of the season against Ottawa, so it should be a good matchup.
