With 2 games to play, the Jets had a chance at establishing a new standard in regular season success. They needed to win the last 2 games to total 114 points, which would have become the best season in franchise history.

They fell short of that record. In fact, they didn't even get to tie the record...!

In their 81st game of the season, they lost 2-1 to Quebec. Barkunov was penalized in the third period and the National scored on the power play to take the lead. They held on to win and Rory Carson, Quebec's goalie, earned the first star of the game.

Then, in the very last game of the season, the Jets were facing their eternal arch-nemesis, the Boston Bruins in Winnipeg. As expected, the Bruins ruined the party by dominating the Jets with a 5-2 win. Either the Winnipeg roster was taking it easy in hopes of avoiding injuries before the playoffs began, or they just didn't show up at all. Ken Mann stopped 34 of the 36 shots he faced, most of which came away from the slot, making the job that much easier for the Boston goalie. The game was still scoreless after the first period. Then, after Kris Brunette's 10th goal of the season, the Bruins responded with 2 goals by Jeff Hogg, taking the lead. The Jets tied early in the third, but Boston retaliated with 3 unanswered goals in 2 minutes and 20 seconds to seal the game and stop Winnipeg from tying their best regular season ever.

Still, 110 points is something to be proud of. This team has shown a lot of good things through the season. Even though they lost their last 2 games of the regular season, they will be more than ready to defend their championship come Monday night.

It will be interesting to see how things go, both in the ANHS and LMNA playoffs. Winnipeg and Knoxville face up in the first round, Winnipeg being the clear favorite while Wichita (Winnipeg's farm team) and Birmingham (Knoxville's farm team) face up in the first round of the LMNA playoffs. Birmingham is the favorite in that series, so it will be fun to watch all 4 teams battle it out in the next week!
